SUNDAY NOON to 5 @ LOODLES

I’ve been wondering what we can do and didn’t want to just throw money at some non-profit where I feared only 20-40% of it would at best make it to where it would make a difference. Thankfully I’ve had the opportunity of getting to know Mark Sprenger, who comes in for coffee quite a bit with his wife. He just happens to be the chief operations coordinator for HISG.org, which is strategically mobilizing people on the ground in Haiti and bringing not only immediate assistance but sustainable, long term help. After talking with him he has supplied us with a beautiful opportunity to get involved. Not just me but you and everyone you know. Check out what I have to share below and discover how we, as Coloradoans or beyond can get involved purposefully and really bring practical help.

ON The Edge of Port Au Prince, up the hill to the west, lies a “neighborhood” (450,000!) that actually was the epicenter of the earthquake and suffered the greatest destruction. BUT, this neighborhood, if you will, has not received hardly any aid as it is not in the city of Port Au Prince. The area in concern is a place called Carrefour, one of the poorest areas in Haiti.

There, virtually untouched, is The Grace Haiti Children’s Hospital right in the midst of all the chaos. All but abandoned by the doctors and nurses as they don’t have medical resources to help. Surrounding the medical compound are 20,000 individuals in desperate need of medical attention without ANY food and water. The reports we’ve gathered on the ground are horrific by all standards and these people need our help.
This hospital we are going to get fully operational and we are going to help these people. International Medical Relief, H.E.L.P. International, Humanitarian International Services Group (ALL FROM THE FRONT RANGE of COLORADO) have banded together to make this happen. Coupled with other amazing groups. They have promised us that at least! 90% of every dollar will go directly to the effort.

THIS SUNDAY, January 31st, AT LOODLES here in WINDSOR we will be launching this effort that all Coloradoans can participate with. From Noon to 5 all these organizations will be present, along with some who were part of the first responders to Haiti now just getting back. You will get the INSIDE scoop of what is happening and see pictures. 20% of all our sales we are donating to the effort as well.

Come learn and see if we all can make a difference together.

The International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) Races Against Time to Rescue Children’s Hospital in Carrefour, Haiti.....

The IDRN Network (www.IDRN.info ) Right Now is in a Race Against Time to Connect Doctors, Nurses, Medical Supplies, Food, Water and Shelter to Bring Emergency Care and Relief to 20,000 Earthquake Victims Surrounding the Grace Haiti Children’s Hospital.

The Emergency Response

•During the week of Monday, Jan 25, 2010, teams of 30+ doctors, nurses, and medical staff are scheduled to arrive in Port Au Prince to replace a team of 30 medical surgeons and triage specialists who had to retreat the hospital due to no more supplies and surrounding IDP pressure.

•The team(s) are flying in from different countries and directions, all poised to converge on this site to avert an already escalating catastrophe.

•IDRN partners are assembling remote watering spigot manifolds and will be attempting to deploy multiple watering locations on the site, drawing from existing untapped wells behind compound walls.

•20,000 Earthquake Victims are immediately adjacent to the compound in a tent-city fashion.....in desperate and deteriorating conditions.

•The Lack of FOOD and Water is at Dangerous Levels and MUST BE TURNED AROUND IMMEDIATELY!!

The Site

•Grace Haiti Children’s Hospital (www.giinc.org) •It’s a 10 acre compound that contains a hospital

that is about 85% completed.

•While the hospital is not fully functional, because of its new construction, the building sustained no significant damage from the main earthquake or aftershocks.

•There are two (2) automatic water wells at the site that have not been activated due to lack of power generator capacity, but will be restored shortly.

•The site security consists of a 12’ masonry wall with three (3) armed guards and 11 unarmed security guards.

Partners Involved

  1. •Grace International (facility owner and local leadership) •Foundation Gerald Bataille Ministries (local leadership) •International Disaster Response Network (IDRN)

  2. •Partners Involved (Continued)

•Humanitarian International Services Group (HISG) •Water Missions International (WMI) •H.E.L.P. International (HELP) •International Medical Relief (IMR)

•Missionary Flights International (MFI) •Texas Baptist Men (TBM) •Operation Compassion (OC) •Associacao Missao Esperanca (AME), Brazil

The Goal

1.To establish a surgical center, medical treatment clinic(s), and feeding/watering location sites to bring much needed aid to Carrefour to provide rescue operations to what some are calling the “hardest hit area of Haiti.”

2.To set up a command post/triage/safe zone for the people in need within greater Carrefour, whose population before the earthquake was estimate to be just under 500,000.

3.To Get FOOD and WATER to the Victims AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
